### **Prince Harry’s Comparisons Between Meghan Markle and Princess Diana: A Family Divided**

Prince Harry has often drawn parallels between his wife, Meghan Markle, and his late mother, Princess Diana. However, reports suggest that the late Princess’s family did not share his perspective, leaving Harry feeling disappointed.

Harry and Meghan began dating in 2016, and the following year, Meghan appeared on the cover of *Vanity Fair* with the headline “Wild About Harry.” This public declaration of their relationship raised eyebrows among Harry’s inner circle, including Prince William and Princess Kate.

In his book, *Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors*, royal author Tom Bower explains: “The Vanity Fair article heightened the Cambridges’ suspicions of Meghan, and the actress soon discovered that her neighbors in Kensington Palace had even less time for her.”

By this point, Harry had introduced Meghan to Diana’s sisters, Jane and Sarah, as well as her best friend, Julia Samuel. Harry assumed that Diana’s family and friends would see a similarity between his mother and his fiancée. Both, he believed, had faced similar struggles. However, Harry was disappointed when no one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with Meghan. Even more disheartening for Harry was the belief among Diana’s family that Meghan might not fit into the Royal Family.

Bower continues: “This unease was voiced by Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother. At William’s request, Spencer cautioned his nephew to reconsider his haste towards marriage. His advice provoked a bitter reaction. Harry later reflected that integrating Meghan into the family was going to be really hard.”

Despite these problems, Harry appears to have improved his connection with his uncle. Charles Spencer and his sister, Lady Jane, supported Harry as he returned to the UK to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, although other members of the Royal Family opted to remain away.

Harry also talked about the parallels between his wife and his late mother in the couple’s Netflix documentary. Facing the camera, he said, “very much of Meghan and how she is is very similar to my mother. She demonstrates the same compassion, sensitivity, and confidence. “She has a warmth about her.”

He continued: “I accept that there will be people around the world who fundamentally disagree with what I’ve done [breaking away from the Royal Family] and how I’ve done it, but I knew I had to do everything I could to protect my family. I didn’t want history to repeat itself.”

Harry further drew parallels between the two women when recounting a particular moment. “The first time that the penny dropped for her, M and I spent the night in a room in Buckingham Palace after an event where every single member of the family had been, including the Queen,” Harry said.

“The next morning, while eating breakfast together, the couple spotted a UK newspaper. And on the front page of *The Telegraph*, Meghan,” he added.

“I went, ‘Oh, my god,’” Meghan recalled. “She was like, ‘But it’s not my fault,’ And I said, ‘I know. And my mum felt the same way,’” Harry stated.
