Before stepping down, tensions rose between the Sussexes and the monarchy after King Charles questioned funding for Meghan Markle’s lifestyle. Harry felt unsupported during his proposal.

King Charles Is 'Devastated' Over His Relationship With Prince Harry

The Sussexes and the family did not get along before they stopped working as royals.

Robert Jobson wrote in his book Our King: Charles III — The Man and the Monarch that Prince Harry was “furious” when his father, King Charles, reportedly said he couldn’t afford to pay for Meghan Markle’s expensive lifestyle in the future.

In an interview with Jobson, the 40-year-old Duke talked about the time he wanted to ask the Suits actress to marry him but got a “frosty response” from both his father and brother.

The Mirror says that Prince William, who is 42 years old, asked Harry right away if he was “sure” about the big choice.

Not long after Harry told the older Royals about his plan, Jobson said that King Charles told him that he couldn’t get money for Meghan.

It was said that the queen told them that money was already being spent on people like Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, and their young children.

This conversation allegedly left Harry feeling furious with tensions growing until his and Meghan’s wedding day just months later on 19 May 2018 at Windsor Castle.

Over time, tensions have been observed between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the royal family, which have unfolded in the media and on television.

Harry has only been back to his home country a few times since he moved to America and has been seen in public each time.

His last trip to the UK was in August, when he went on his own to attend a funeral service for his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, who had died earlier that summer.

It was in June 2022 that they went together to honor the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee National Service of Thanksgiving.

After a few months, they came back to remember Queen Elizabeth II after her sudden death in September.

They have not set up a base in the UK since they left Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. They say they are worried about security, which is why they made this choice. It has been said that Meghan has said she will never come back.
