Meghan Markle is reportedly pushing for an apology from the royal family before she agrees to visit the UK, a royal expert has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex has declined a rumored invitation to accompany Prince Harry to his home soil next month, where it was suggested they bring their children. The “Suits” alum, 42, has had a strained relationship with several senior members of her husband’s family, documenting the hardships in several lucrative projects over the last few years.
According to royal experts, reconciliation between the two camps is unlikely until Markle receives an apology from the Firm, despite claims that Harry intends to make amends with his family during a future trip to London. According to royal analyst Charlotte Griffiths, the royal family has “given up” on apologizing to the mother of two.
Griffiths told GB News, “I think she is pushing for an apology.” She has been pursuing that for a while, despite claims to the contrary from the Sussex camp, that she has given up on issuing an apology. Though we know he saw his father when he was sick and that he will be returning in May, I don’t think she is genuinely preventing him from seeing his family.
“Harry would like a reconciliation, but supports his wife completely, and until she feels that the royal family have been sufficiently nice to her — and grovelingly apologized for the past — it’s not going to happen,” royal author Tom Quinn said in another interview with the Mirror.
“There has been a shift here since Kate’s illness. Harry and Meghan do feel they need to extend an olive branch, but Meghan’s sense of grievance is still preventing anything really meaningful happening,” Quinn continued. “Illness often brings warring family members together, and there have been hopes at Kensington Palace that Kate’s illness might do it.”
Markle last returned to England for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral service in September 2022.
